Outstanding Love Stories
LOVED LOVE SONGSI think this may actually be the best book I've ever read.Katherine Stone has a unique style of writing which captures all your emotions and makes you feel for the characters. Julia and Jeffrey's love story is heart-melting and real- it makes you feel you're living vicariously throuh them. By the end of the book, all my emotions were touched-anger, sadness, joy and contentment.

The Mary-Sue Extrusion (New Adventures)
Published in Mass Market Paperback by Virgin Publishing (March, 1999)
Average review score:

Dr Who, SchmooThis is a downright clever book. To appreciate it more, if you aren't familiar with the term "Mary-Sue," search the Internet for "Mary-Sue Litmus Test." Then consider the nameless first-person narrator. Writer-to-writer meta-humor aside, if you enjoyed The Hitchhiker's Guide... or Bill, the Galactic Hero, you'll enjoy this book too. And, no, it may be a "New Adventures" book, but it's pretty much Dr. Who free, which is fine by me. :)
TEN out of TEN! A FANTASTIC ESCAPADE FROM DAVE STONEFirst off, the book is by Dave Stone. If you're really curious to know, Kate Orman came up with the title. And the cover shown here is not the cover that made it onto the book. Besides not having Kate's name on it. Anyway the book is a *joy* after some pretty turgid recent entries in the New Adventure series. Stone's at his most insane, while managing to keep a tentacle or two on solid ground: basically throwing in all the nuttiness and irrelevance we've come to expect, but giving us a straightforward adventure yarn which twists one's brain in directions previously unexplored. Pure brain candy! Magical! Tons o' fun! But Wolesey fans remember, Dave Stone hates cats!

Monkey Business: The Disturbing Case That Launched the Animal Rights Movement (People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals)
Published in Hardcover by National Press Books (September, 1993)
Average review score:

Thought InspiringI read this book while in juvenile detention waiting to be placed in a foster home. It was given to me by a vegan employee. I wasn't going anywhere so I though "why not?" I was vegetarian at the time (for health reasons only), but knew and cared nothing about animal rights. Reading this book compelled me to be otherwise. Additionally, for those of you who think that PETA is just a bunch of hippie wackos - read this. This book is also about the founding of PETA and you will soon find out they are nothing more than people who love animals.
A Must for All Animal LoversNo matter where you stand on the issue of animal rights, this book will give you a better understanding of the animal rights movement, and the case which launched the founding of PETA. It is very well written, describing in great detail the story of the Silver Spring monkey abuse case, in which an NIH-funded researcher, Edward Taub, was convicted of animal abuse for neglecting and abusing his research subjects. It is essential reading for animal lovers and anyone who is interested in animal rights and/or animal welfare. I found it easy to read, educational, and yet, disturbing. Other suggested reading is Next of Kin by Roger Fouts.

More Stories Julian Tells (Stepping Stone, paper)
Published in Paperback by Random House Childrens Pub (January, 1989)
Average review score:

From the author, March 4, 2,000An excerpt from this book, about African-American characters, was used January 31, 2,000 in a state-wide Illinois third-grade reading standards test. 70,000 Illinois children got this test excerpt, in which the testers reillustrated the story without permission and changed the characters to Causcasians. I wrote the book with great care, and with the hope that many children will identify with my characters who are courageous and successful and well-liked. Over 200,000 copies of the book have been sold. I know from my fan mail that many children of all races do identify with the characters. It must have been painful for many of them to see their heroes turned white on a test--and for others who know the book, it must have been distracting at the least. One of the testers' three new illustrations shows the brothers in the story playing baseball. Eight books about the characters have been published to date (there will be a new one next year)--and in none of them do the characters play baseball. The testers developed their test questions based on a 3-page excerpt from the book; they had never even seen a copy of the entire book (thus the error in race), much less read it. It's quite possible that a child who had read the book would give different answers to the test questions based on his knowledge, and that the testers, in their ignorance, would mark it wrong. In many states, statewide tests are very serious these days--children are stigmatized for low scores, and teachers lose their jobs. But it appears that the tests are hastily and thoughtlessly constructed and penalize good readers. Parents and all of us concerned with education need to know what kind of tests children are being subjected to. --anncameron@guate.net
I like this bookI think it's a great book. So I want other people to read it. Because Julian tells lots of stories and it's lots of fun reading it.

Morning of the White Stone, The
Published in Paperback by PublishAmerica (10 July, 2002)
Average review score:

So real, I had to cry for the little boy, MatthewI read this book slowly, for I'm 80 years old. The plight of the young boy raised by relatives and mistreated is a heartbreaking fact of life. I felt his rejection, for the author has a way with words, creating such a connection to her characters, I could not put it down. The end was amazing and rewarding, confirming that with God, all things are possible. I would recommend this book, for it is inspiring, touching. The beautiful poems only added to my enjoyment, for I could plainly see what it cost the author emotionally to write such words. Only someone who had been there could possibly describe such feelings of pain as Mrs. Lewis has done. I loved it! Wish she would write a sequel!
The Morning of the White StoneAlthough newly published, the author exhibits amazing skill in her ability to involve the reader in the passions and pain of her characters. The young boy, Matthew Carlisle, portrayed as a victim of his environment, seems unable to understand his own anger and hatred. Does a child necessarily exhibit such ingrained hostilities as an adult due to influences from childhood? Is it possible for the dark side of a personality to be affected by prayer and faith in God? The reader must decide this for himself, for the theme of this book points to that conclusion. As a man, I enjoyed the smooth, flowing, poetry of this book. Possibly considered a woman's preferred reading, based on the author's personal experiences as the wife of the character of Matthew Carlisle, I nevertheless was caught up in the struggle between the dark side of his character and the light. This is a book of fiction, but the events are true to life. There is a message of determined comittment to marriage, which is not too popular today. Also, the character of Amelia, the long suffering wife, could be labeled a fool by feminists. Its all in the perspective of the reader's view of God, faith, prayer, and real, tough, love. I rated this book five stars because I thoroughly enjoyed reading it. Whether as fiction or fact, it is deeply moving, invoking sympathy and empathy. All in all, a good read.

Mrs. Claus Believes
Published in Paperback by Vantage Press (June, 1999)
Average review score:

Excellent story about trying and believing...A book with lessons for all ages. I thoroughly enjoyed this authors writing style and story. She seems to be full of hope, joy and caring, as discussed on the back cover. This book teaches plenty of good lessons about always believing in yourself. A must for any good Christmas book list, and wouldn't you know it, she has another book coming out in December "Mrs. Claus Invites You".
I love the illustrations in this book! The drawing at the end of the book says it all at a glanceabout the power of belief in one's self the author is writing about. Please publish the name of the illustrator in your site

Music Notation in the Twentieth Century: A Practical Guidebook
Published in Hardcover by W.W. Norton & Company (November, 1980)
Average review score:

The Definitive Music Notation text (well worth hunting down)There are in exisstence a number of useful music notation texts. For quick reference, there is Tom gerou's 'Essential Dictionary of Music Notation'. For an in-depth examination of engraving conventions, there is Ted Ross's 'The Art of Music Engraving & Processing' (includes a history of the processes involved), and a number of titles by Gardner Read. But for all-round comprehensiveness (especially pertaining to contemporary music notation practice), Kurt Stone's book is without a shadow of a doubt the one to get. Every composer should have this book. Incidentally, the book is out of print, but if you can't get it here, you will definitely be able to get it and the other titles mentioned at NPCimaging dot com. (Oops, don't think I'm supposed to do that!)
A must have for a music engraver--too bad it's out of printThis book is very useful for the professional music engraver. It covers many topics that "traditional" engraving texts tend not to cover as far as 20th Century engraving practices are concerned.

My Lady's Choice (Historical, 511)

Absolutely Genuine!!!Lynda Stone truly made me an avid reader, I missed at least
10 hours of sleep over the course of a week. Lady Fernstowe,
developing a complex, admired as well as despised the one man
that would change her and the life she thought she so possessed.
I love the way "LYN" visualized thee intamacy between Sarah
and her emaculate Knight. The events that took place really
keep you at lost for words but gracious with curiosity. I
sincerely recommend it for those in favor of realistic,
historical romance.

The day the bed brokeThis book was the best! The entire time my sister was reading it she couldn't stop laughing and it annoyed me to heck. Then I picked up the book and everyone in the house was ready to sock me to make me stop laughing! Of course there were times when I felt perilously close to crying. This book will definetly go on my "favorite" shelf!
Of course, Jeffrey and Julia is the meat of the story, but the other two stories blended in so beautifully, it truly was a bunch of love songs. Sad, and so sweet.
I'd never read anything by Katerine Stone before so this was a rare treat. I can honestly recommend this book. Wonderful writing and three magnificent loves stories! Great book!
